About me

My name is Laurie Kames I opened My Sister's Quilt Shop in October of 2004. I have been married for 32 years to my lucky husband Don. We have two children Keri 27, an X-ray Tech, married to our wonderful son-in-law Scott who is a firefighter. Doug 24, works for the St. Charles School District in the grounds department, and was married in August 2004 to our wonderful daughter-in-law Stephanie who is attending college.

I always dreamed of owning my own quilt shop and in January of 2004 I was laid off from the company I was working for. Before I was laid off I was seriously pursuing opening my own quilt shop, I was working on my business plan and looking into financing options, locations, etc. After I was laid off I had plenty of time to devote to opening the quilt shop. In October of 2004 by dream became a reality.

I have 5 sisters and 4 brothers and while searching for a name for the quilt shop my sister's referred to it as "my sister's quilt shop", I was losing patience with them for not coming up with a catchy name for the shop, one day I was listening to one of them talking to a friend on the phone about helping me with "my sister's quilt shop" and realized the name was there all long. Needless to say I had to apologize to them.

I live in Kaneville Illinois which is only 15 miles south west of Lafox, so I am close to the shop. My family has been very supportive of my endeavor. My Daughter and Son-in-law help me out quite often at the shop. Scott is great at waiting on the customers and running the register, and Keri is wonderful at helping Scott.
